Akib at the ICU
A warning remark "no bone here, do not put pressure" was written on a bandage wrapped around head of a young man admitted at Chattogram Medical College Hospital's (CMCH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The patient was identified as Mahadi J Akib, an MBBS 62nd batch student at Chattogram Medical College (CMC). He has been put on life support at ICU of CMCH after being injured in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy on the CMC campus on Saturday.
Akib underwent surgery on that day under the supervision of a medical board comprised of consultants from neurosurgery, neurology, and anesthesia.
According to the physicians, the operation was successful but he was still in danger. Akib had a brain hemorrhage and his "skull was broken".
The clashes took place between two groups in two phases from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Akib and three others were injured in the clashes. Immediately after the incident, CMC's academic council decided to close the college indefinitely. At the same time, all the students were instructed to leave the halls by Saturday evening.
