In the last 24 hours, 508,462 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus worldwide while 1,331 people died from the pandemic.
Earlier on Monday, 577,939 COVID- 19 patients were detected while 1,277 deaths related to the disease were reported worldwide.
As of Tuesday (16-08-2022), a total of 596,208,705 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 6,456,984 while 570,294,282 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.
Both Japan and Brazil have topped the daily death toll list. In Brazil, 155 people died in the last 24 hours while 6,596 new COVID cases were confirmed, bringing the death toll to 681,705 and the tally of infections to 34,178,240 in the country. Japan, on the other hand, has also reported 155 deaths in a span of 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 35,156 while 169,972 new COVID cases were reported, surging the tally of virus cases to 15,615,251 in the country.
Germany has seen the second-highest deaths of 140 in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 145,838. The total number of cases has exceeded 31,599,085 with 63,742 new infections.
In the United States, 112 people died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the virus to 1,062,770. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 94,788,022 with 37,565 new virus cases.
South Korea has reported 62,078 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall caseload to 21,418,036. The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 25,673 with 50 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours.
The coronavirus, which was first reported in China in 2019, affects 228 countries and territories worldwide.
