Covid-19 cases top 9000-mark, 12 die in 24hrs

Bangladesh today reported 9,500 fresh Covid-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 12 lives.

"The country reported 25.11 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 37, 573 samples were tested in the past 24 hours," the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement. The total positivity rate stands at 13.72 percent.

Of the dead in 24 hours, 10 are male while two are female.

The official tally showed that the virus killed 28,176 people and infected 16,42,244 so far, the statement added.

The recovery count rose to 15, 54, 268 after another 473 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

Earlier, 8,407 Covid-19 cases and 10 deaths were reported in the previous day.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 94.64 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.72 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.

Bangladesh first reported Covid-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death from the deadly virus on March 18, ten days later from the detection coronavirus cases in the country.
