Goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico was probably the best achievement of Bangladesh in the match against Qatar as he made some brilliant saves throughout the match but his effort was not good enough to avoid a 5-0 defeat against Qatar in the World Cup qualifying match at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha on Friday.
Zico, just in his 2nd international appearance, performed a brilliant show under the bar foiling at least half a dozen of the opponent’s attack.
Regular shot-stopper Ashraful Islam Rana was replaced by him who made his international debut in a friendly against Nepal on November 13. And the young keeper had proved himself in the match.
Qatar dominated the entire proceeding having 73 percent ball possession of the match and go to the break by taking a 2-0 lead at the first half of the match. They could have been scored at least five goals in the first half. Goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico was superb under the bar by saving his team from certain goals.
Regarding the performance of Zico, Bangladesh coach Jamie Day expressed his satisfaction by saying, “I think I was right picking Zico for the match against Qatar. He was just fantastic. He made three world-class saves on his competitive international debut which is simply unbelievable for someone who is just 21.”
Qatar came with a more organized way in the second half and added another three goals to seal the victory.
Earlier, in the home match, Bangladesh suffered a 0-2 goal defeat to Qatar held in Dhaka.
Qatar maintained the top position in Group E with 16 points while Bangladesh placed at bottom-ranked having one point from five outings.
