A writ has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of the Election Commission's decision to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at six constituencies during the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond, also an aspirant from Jatiya Party for Dhaka-8 constituency, filed the writ on Monday.

Besides, the writ sought cancellation of the decision of using EVM.

The hearing on the writ petition is likely to be held at the HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md. Iqbal Kabir.

Chief Election Commissioner, Cabinet Secretary, President's Secretary and secretary to the Law Ministry has been made respondents to the writ.

The writ petitioner said that the decision of using EVM in six constituencies among 300 is discriminatory.

The Election Commission has decided to use EVM in Dhaka-6 and-13, Chattogram-9, Rangpur-3, Khulna-2 and Satkhira-2 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary election.
