World-class tourist center at Chandpur at cost of Tk 6,000cr

A project has been taken up to build a world-class tourist center at Meghna Char in Chandpur. The project is being undertaken by Blue River Island Resort and Tourism Club Limited, a joint venture of Japan-Bangladesh.
The project will require 600 acres of land with an estimated cost of Tk 6,000 crore. For this, three chars of Meghna river adjacent to Dasadi of Kalyanpur and Bishnupur UP of Chandpur Sadar upazila have been selected as suitable places.
A project introductory meeting was held on Monday on the banks of Meghna, adjacent to Dasadi, on an area of about 280 acres. Apart from the officials of the project organization, public representatives, academics and journalists were also present on the occasion. Rajib Ahmed, director of Blue River Island Resort and Tourism Club introduced the project.
The tourist center will have — museums of Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’s history and heritage, floating cottages, 4-km long cable car, traditional cottages, studio apartments, five-star hotels, theme parks, river cruises, speed boats, helicopters, convention halls, theaters, International Expo Center, market, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor games, cricket arena, swimming club, water ride, hospital, party center, holy corner, research institute, staff residential area, agritourism, green energy, tourism diploma course school, etc.
Sagar Mahmud, managing director and chief executive of the Blue River Island Resort and Tourism Club, said the tourist center would cater to millions of people every day and accommodate 20,000 tourists. About 5,000 people will be employed. The project is divided into three phases to implement. 265 acres in the first phase, 210 acres in the second phase and 125 acres in the last phase will be required.
