World White Cane Safety Day tomorrow

The World White Cane Safety Day 2021 will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world tomorrow (Friday, October 14).
This year’s theme of the day is – “Digital Sadachari, Nirapodey Poth Choli”.
An international conference was held in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo on October 4, 1969, by the International Blind Organization where white cane was recognized as the safety symbol for the blind people and October 15 as the World White Cane Safety Day.
Later, it was adopted unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly on December 9, 1975.
On the occasion of the day, the Ministry of Social Welfare will organize a rally and discussion and distribute grants and smart white cans to the visually impaired meritorious students by maintaining social distancing at the National Disabled Development Foundation is also known as Jatiyo Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation in the capital’s Mirpur area.
Besides, discussion and smart white canes will be distributed in 64 districts throughout the country by maintaining social distancing. – BSS
