World Health Day: Building a healthier world for all

World Health Day is being observed around the world including Bangladesh on Wednesday, April 7, in a befitting manner.
The theme of this year’s day is – “building a fairer, healthier world for everyone.”
To mark the day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and non-governmental organizations working in the field of health taken various programs every year.
However, no event was organized this year as the day is being observed amid the government announced 7-day lockdown.
But there will be a zoom meeting today organized by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on the occasion of World Health Day 2021.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque will be present as the chief guest at the Zoom meeting. Besides, Md. Ali Nur, Secretary of Health and Education Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Md. Lokman Mia, Secretary of Health Services Division will be present as a special guest.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council decided to convene a conference on international health in February 1948. The International Health Conference was held in June and July of the same year and an organizational act of the World Health Organization (WHO) was adopted.
The organizational act came into force on April 8, 1948. This day was designated as World Health Day.
Every year, the WHO chooses a health issue that is especially important for the whole world. This day is celebrated locally and internationally.
