World Food Day is celebrated on Friday in Bangladesh as well as in other countries through various formalities initiatives. 

This year the theme of the day is — “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our actions are our future”. 

On the occasion of World Food Day, the Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak said, “We need to be aware of food and nutrition security in Bangladesh during the coronavirus-post period. We must continue our initiative. With this goal in mind, this year we are going to celebrate World Food Day.” 

On this occasion, the Ministry of Agriculture has taken various programs including international seminars, technical sessions, public awareness-raising activities, he said.

He added that an international seminar has been organized at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel at 10:00 am on Friday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the chief guest at the seminar. Matia Chowdhury, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, and Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim will be present as special guests.

The Agriculture Minister said that the Qu Dongyu, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, will speak online. Besides, agronomists, nutritionists, and agro-economists from home and abroad will participate. More than 500 officials from all over the country including Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and Divisional, District and Upazila Offices of the Ministry of Food will be connected online, he added.
