Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the construction work of the Padma bridge will be completed within June 2022.
He made the remark while responding to queries of a lawmaker in the question and answer session of the National Parliament on Tuesday.
The question was raised by M Abdul Latif, a lawmaker of the ruling party, in a session chaired by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the construction work of the Padma bridge has been delayed, the minister added.
The Minister further added that the construction work has been delayed as some foreign engineers, consultants and workers left the project.
The bridge, which would connect Dhaka to 21 southern districts, is likely to be opened to traffic in the first half of next year.
