Woman gives childbirth at gate as hospital reluctant to admit her

A woman named Rasheda Begum went to Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex in Gaibandha with labor pains. But the doctors did not admit her. She later gave birth to a baby girl in front of the hospital gate.

The incident happened on Monday evening. Rasheda, wife of Badsha Miah of Jamudanga village in Damodarpur UP of the upazila. She is 50 years old. 

Relatives said Rasheda was taken to the Upazila Health Complex on Monday afternoon when her water broke down at home. However, doctors did not admit her due to coronavirus. Although they requested more than once, the doctors did not listen. 

Seeing no other way, Rasheda gave birth to a baby girl with the help of local women on the road adjacent to the gate of the health complex.

Ripon Kumar Barman, a doctor at the Upazila Health Complex, said “older pregnant women bleed a lot during childbirth. So Rasheda was not admitted.”
