The High Court on Sunday has issued a rule asking why a child rapist should not be executed.

A double bench headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim issued the rule in the wake of a writ petition filed on Sunday morning.

The High Court, however, commented that the discussion in the National Assembly last week demanding crossfire which sought punishment for rape was not right.

Meanwhile, another bench of the High Court directed the formation of an expert committee to provide automatic protective devices, anti-rape devices to stop rape and sexual abuse. The committee will submit a progress report on the issue within the next 60 days.

The committee, headed by the secretary of the ICT ministry, has been asked to keep an expert professor. At the same time, a rule has been issued on why instruction shouldn’t be given for women to take adequate security measures to protect them from rape and sexual abuse.
