Broadband internet in villages at same rate now
Beyond the city, broadband internet service has now reached the remote villages. However, there were differences in terms of quality and rate. BTRC is taking steps to reduce the difference in services and prices between rural and urban areas.
Shyam Sundar Sikder, chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC), said broadband internet prices would remain the same across the country. The whole country, including remote areas, is coming under the 'One Country One Rate' tariff.
It is learned that details will be given in an online press briefing on Sunday at 3 pm. An announcement may also be made to make broadband internet available in the village at this time.
In a roundtable discussion titled 'Transmission Network in Digital Services: Present and Future' on March 12, 2019, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that 'One Country One Rate' policy should be followed to make fixed broadband internet access. Individual rates on the Internet may not be acceptable for people in remote areas.
Already, the government has successfully connected 3,800 unions with high-speed internet connectivity through the optical fiber. Meanwhile, the government has taken initiative to increase the number to 4500 in the country this year.
