When a lawyer brought the matter of arguments between the police, the magistrate and the female doctor to High Court notice, the court counter-questioned the lawyer, “Who are you? If she has to come, she (the doctor) will come. The matter will look into then.”
A virtual bench comprising High Court Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman made such remarks on Monday.
Lawyer Younus Ali Akand said various media outlets across the country have reported that a doctor has been harassed in a scuffle between a doctor-police and a magistrate over a movement pass in lockdown.
“I presented the reports of three newspapers to the court in the public interest. The concerned bench of the High Court later said that since the matter has been challenged by the doctor herself, she will have to come to the court if she wants.”
Advocate Yunus Ali Akand told the court: “A doctor was harassed by the police on April 18. I am presenting this incident to you in the public interest. The court then said police, doctor and magistrate had arguments in the streets. She has to come to court. The matter will be seen then.”
On Sunday, on the fifth day of the ‘strict lockdown’, a female doctor, magistrate and police officer got involved in a scuffle over ‘Movement Pass’ in the capital’s Elephant Road.
A video of the three-way altercation went viral through social media. Many people including various media have been seen to make various observations and comments.
