Pakistan have clinched three-match T20Is series against Bangladesh keeping one match in hand at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore today.
Before the series began, Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad said Bangladesh was not thinking about the rankings and statistics. But after losing the series, head coach Russell Domingo spoke about the ranking difference.
Currently, Pakistan is at the top of the T20 rankings while Tigers placed at the 9th position. Referring to the issue at the press conference after the match, Domingo said, "In the first match we scored as low as 15 runs and today we probably made a 25-run less score. Pakistan is at the top of T20 rankings where we are at 9th, the difference is clear, much work has to be done to reduce this difference.”
In the first match of the series on Friday, Bangladesh made some resistance with the ball while the Tigers carried the match into the last over. The scenario turned into more devastating in today's match as Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez's unbeaten 131 runs stand helped the home side to beat Bangladesh by nine wickets. According to coach Russell Domingo, the difference between the two team rankings is the major determinant here.
Bangladesh won the loss in both two matches and decided to bat first in all-times. Regarding this, the coach said, "We know very well how good for us to send Pakistan in chasing. Their death bowling is pretty good, so our plan was to bat first and made big scores though unfortunately, that worked not well.”
Bangladesh will play against Pakistan in the last match of the series on Monday to avoid a whitewash.
