Water transport workers have postponed their indefinite strike, said the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The decision was taken after a meeting between the owners and the workers on Thursday.

Water transport workers enforced an indefinite strike across the country on Tuesday to press home their 11-point demand, disrupting the operation of lighterage vessels and oil tankers.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by State Minister for Labour and Employment Mannujan Sufian with boat owners on Thursday.

The meeting decided to increase the food allowance by Tk 1,000 for small ships, Tk 1,200 for medium ships (1,000 to 1,500 tonne), and Tk 1,500 for larger vessels. As a result, the workers decided to call off the strike.

At the meeting, the labor leaders urged all the naval workers to start work from now on while maintaining discipline.
