Wages to be paid by April 16: Commerce Minister

Although factories are closed due to coronavirus no workers can be exempted from their jobs and the wages of March will have to pay by April 16, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said.

The Minister urged the factory owners to pay wages of labours on Tuesday. It was said in a press release sent from the Ministry of Commerce.

Earlier on April 3, several ministries, including the Ministry of Commerce, urged the factory owners to take necessary steps to ensure workers jobs and no wages cut during the holidays due to coronavirus.

Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Under the Ministry of Labor and Employment sent a letter to the business organization.

The letter said, Last month, around 16,800 factories, including garment factories, were shut down in Bangladesh due to coronavirus. About 12 lakh workers have become unemployed.
