Voting in 60 municipalities ends peacefully: EC

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Alamgir today said the second phase elections to 60 municipalities was held in a peaceful manner as it ended with the cooperation and participation of all political parties.  

He said that while briefing the journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area after the voting ended on Saturday. 
He said voters have been voting in an orderly manner since the morning while the country saw a voter turnout of 70 to 75 percent. However, the exact will be known after disclosing the polls' result. 

The EC secretary said the second phase of elections ended peacefully. Though in one or two places, the miscreants wanted to disrupt the polls the members of the law enforcement agencies in charge of the elections have taken full control of them and they have not given a chance to ruin the election environment. 

He added that The voting in 60 municipalities was started at 8:00 am on Saturday and continued till 4:00 pm. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were used in 28 out of 60 municipalities.
