Voting for the Sylhet-3 by-election scheduled for July 28 amid ongoing restrictions to prevent coronavirus outbreak has been postponed until August 5.

A single special High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Monday.

Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking postponement of the by-polls in the Sylhet-3 constituency scheduled for July 28 amid ongoing restrictions.

The writ petition was filed by seven voters of the constituency and six lawyers of the Supreme Court.
