Virtual court hearings: Over 17,000 prisoners get bail in 9 days

More than 17,000 prisoners, including 190 children, have secured bail from the lower courts across the country in the past nine working days in the virtual court hearings.
Supreme Court spokesman Md Saifur Rahman confirmed the information to the media on Monday.
The spokesman said a total of 17,056 detainees, including 190 children, have been released on bail in virtual hearings of the 30,500 cases from subordinate courts and tribunals across the country in the nine working days since the virtual court began.
Through the virtual hearings, the lower court granted bail to 1,604 prisoners on April 12, 3,259 on April 13, 2,360 on April 15, 1,842 on April 18, 1,635 on April 19, 1,076 on April 20, 1,349 on April 21, 1,592 on April 22 and 1,839 on April 25.
