EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed informed that in Bangladesh, village police to be deployed in the national election for the first time. He confirmed this information of the deployment in a meeting on fund allocation on Tuesday.

“We are taking a new decision this year to put the village police on election duty,” EC Secretary said.

At least 46,000 members of village police have been serving in Bangladesh.

In his televised speech on the polls schedule, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announces the appointment of an executive magistrate and a judicial magistrate in each polling center.

More than 600,000 members of law enforcement would be deployed.

During the last parliamentary election in 2014, a core team of 14 to 16, including RAB, BGB, and army officials, was deployed in each polling centers.

The commission has also approved Tk 7 billion to meet the total election spending this year that is almost double the amount in the previous year.

The EC will finalize the legal issues tied to the deployment of law enforcement agencies in a meeting after the beginning of the electoral campaign.
