Two passenger launches were moving along the Buriganga. The big one is ‘Mayuri-2’, the small one is ‘Morning Bird’. Suddenly, the Morning Bird carrying almost 100 passengers got a terrible hit from Mayuri-2. In this, the ‘Morning Bird’ launch overturned and sank immediately.
Although some passengers were able to swim at that time, many are still missing. So far, 31 bodies have been recovered from the missing. The bodies are being handed over to relatives at Mitford Hospital in the capital.
Meanwhile, the location of the sunken launch has been identified. The rescue ship ‘Prottoy’ left Narayanganj but stranded at Postagola Bridge. However, the fire service’s diving team and the Coast Guard’s rescue operation is underway.
Earlier in the morning, the Morning Bird launch left Munshiganj for Dhaka with more than 50 passengers.
