Veteran actress Kabori dies

Veteran actress Sarah Begum Kabori has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un). She was 70.

She breathed her last at 12:20 am Saturday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in the capital. 

Her son Shaker Chisty confirmed the information. 

Kabori tested positive for Covid-19 on April 5 and admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the ICU of Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital on April 8. She was put on life support on Thursday afternoon. 

Born on July 19 in 1950 in Chattogram, Kabori made her film debut in 1964 in the movie 'Sutarang' at the age of 13. The movie was directed by Subhash Dutt. In her illustrious career, she acted in over a hundred films including Sujon Sokhi, Sareng Bou and Devdas. She acted another important role in Titash Ekti Nadir Naam directed by Indian filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak. She also acted in an Urdu film named "Bahana" by Zahir Raihan with co-actor Rahman. 

The veteran actress received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Sareng Bou (1978). Apart from acting, she directed and produced a number of films.

She was elected as an MP from the Narayanganj-4 constituency as a Bangladesh Awami League politician in 2008.
