Verdict in Rifat murder case Wednesday

The verdict in the murder case of Rifat Sharif in Barguna will be on Wednesday. Barguna District and Sessions Judge Md. Ashaduzzaman will announce the verdict against 10 adults accused in the case. 

Rifat’s father Dulal Sharif has demanded exemplary punishment. On the other hand, Mozammel Hossain Kishore, father of accused Ayesha Siddiqa Minni, who is also a witness in the Rifat Sharif murder case, is also expecting a fair trial. 

The accused in the case are – Rakibul Hasan alias Rifat Faraji, Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias TikTok Hridoy, Md. Hasan, Md. Musa, Ayesha Siddiqa Minni, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, Md. Sagar, and Kamrul Hasan Simon.

According to court sources, after the testimony of 76 witnesses against 10 adults accused in the Rifat murder case, the court accepted defense witness behalf of one accused. 

The concerned lawyers then presented arguments in the court against all the accused. The court fixed the date of the verdict after presenting arguments on behalf of Minni, wife of the deceased Rifat.

“The arguments we presented hopefully will acquit Minni,” said lawyer Mahbubul Bari Aslam.

On June 26, 2019, in front of Barguna Government College, Nayan Bond and his accomplices publicly hacked Rifat Sharif with machetes in broad daylight and seriously injured him. The injured Rifat later died at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

On September 1, police filed a chargesheet against 24 people, including Rifat’s wife Minni, in the Rifat Sharif murder case in the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court. At the same time, the number one accused in the Rifat murder case, Nayan Bond, was killed in a gunfight, so he was acquitted.

On January 1, the Barguna District and Sessions Judge’s Court framed charges against 10 adults accused in the Rifat murder case. On the other hand, on January 8, the Barguna Children’s Court framed charges against 14 juveniles accused in the Rifat murder case.

One of the adults accused in the charge sheet of the case Md. Musa is still a fugitive. Besides, six juveniles, including Rifat's wife Minni, have been granted bail by the High Court and Barguna Juvenile Court.
