US Deputy Secretary of State in Dhaka

US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun has arrived in Dhaka to discuss Bangladesh-US cooperation on Covid-19 response, recovery efforts and sustainable economic development. He arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon after a two-day visit to India.
The US Embassy in Dhaka has confirmed the information.
On the first day of the visit Biegun will attend a dinner with Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam.
The US Deputy Secretary of State will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.
He is also scheduled to meet Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. Beagan will later exchange views with civil society and the media.
Diplomatic sources said that in the context of geopolitical and strategic cooperation, Bangladesh's engagement in Indo-Pacific strategy, sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis and cooperation in tackling the Covid-19 issue will be of special importance in the bilateral talks.
Stephen Biegun is the second top official in the US State Department. This is the first visit to Bangladesh by a top US official in recent times.
