U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Edward Biegun is arriving in Bangladesh today after a three-day visit to New Delhi.
He will arrive in Dhaka on a three-day special flight from New Delhi on Wednesday, a spokesman for the US State Department in Washington DC said in a press release on Friday.
The spokesman said Deputy Secretary Biegun will visit Bangladesh from Wednesday to Friday to meet with senior government officials and reaffirm the US-Bangladesh partnership.
He added: “The purpose of Deputy Secretary Biegun’s visit to Bangladesh was to work for a common, unambiguous plan for a free, open, participatory, peaceful and secure Indo-Pacific region for prosperity for all, and to move forward the US-Bangladesh cooperation in combating COVID-19 and its impact and sustainable economic development.”
Stephen Biegun is the second top person in the US State Department. His position is second only to that of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. This is the first US top official’s visit to Bangladesh in recent years.
