A UP female member landed in jail after being arrested in a case where she made her husband ‘dead’ and issued a death certificate of him — although her husband is alive.
The victim-husband was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 63, hails from Shivalaya Model UP in Shivalaya Upazila of Manikganj. His wife Sharmin Akter – a reserved member of wards no. 7, 8 and 9 of Shivalaya Model UP.
The victim Shafiqul later filed a lawsuit against her wife Sharmin, UP chairman Md. Alal Uddin and Abdur Rauf Khan, a member of ward no. 7 of the same UP with Shivalaya police station on Thursday on charges of forgery of a death certificate.
Police raided the house and arrested Sharmin after the case. She was sent to jail through court on Saturday.
According to the case details, Shafiqul went to the social service office of Shivalaya upazila on September 27 to take a loan. Seeing the documents at that time, the concerned officer mentioned ‘Shafiqul’ as dead and showed Shafiqul the death certificate signed by chairman Alal Uddin as proof.
When Shafiqul asked about the matter, the accused chairman and members threatened to murder him.
Shibalaya police OC Md. Feroz Kabir said that even though a man named Shafiqul Islam was alive, his wife issued a “death certificate” for him with the connivance of the chairman-member. The case was registered after the preliminary investigation found the allegations to be true.
Plaintiff’s wife Sharmin Akhter was arrested in a raid on Friday night. She was sent to jail through the court on Saturday, OC Md. Feroz Kabir also said, adding that the police were working to arrest the other accused.
