UP chairman among 2 killed as car falls into canal

Two people, including a Union Parishad (UP) chairman, were killed as a private car fell into a canal on the Bardia-Naragati road near Sibanandopur Primary School under Kalia upazila of Narail on Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as Khashial UP chairman M Khan Rassel Sweet, 52, a resident of Bordia village and Showkat Sarder, 57, of Tona village of the upazila.

According to locals, the accident took place at around 11:00 pm when a private car fell into a roadside canal in the area as its driver Khan Rassel lost control over the wheel. Both of them died on the spot.

Khan Rassel Sweet and Showkat Sarder were going to Bordia Bazar from Kalia riding the private car.

Confirming the matter, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naragati Police Station Roksana Khanom, said a case was filled in this connection.
