UAE confirms first coronavirus cases

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday confirmed the first cases of the new coronavirus virus.
A family that had just come from China’s central city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak, has been diagnosed with a case of the new coronavirus, the UAE's state-run WAM news agency reported citing the Health and Prevention Ministry.
Those diagnosed with the virus were in stable condition and under medical observation, the ministry said.
However, it offered no details on where the stricken family lived nor where they were receiving treatment. It was also not clear how many people had been infected.
It is the first known confirmed case in the UAE of a virus that has killed at least 132 people in China has infected more than 6,000 people in the mainland and more than a dozen other countries.
The UAE is home to long-haul carriers Emirates and Etihad Airways and is a major air transport hub with its Dubai International airport ranked the world’s third busiest.
