Two students of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology and Jahangirnagar University have embarked on a nationwide ‘No helmet, No bike’ campaign to encourage motorcyclists to use helmets.
Mahmud Al Jannat, a fourth-year student in the Department of Nutrition and Food of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology, and Sajib Hasan Saj, a second-year student in the Department of Government and Politics of Jahangirnagar University started the campaign from Chuadanga on October 7. Both of them are the residents of Chuadanga.
They will travel to 64 districts of the country with the message ‘No helmet, no bike, save the drive, save life’ to increase the awareness of drivers as well as riders about the use of helmets.
They have personally taken this initiative to make the leave for coronavirus pandemic a positive one.
They started this awareness motorcycle ride in front of the central Shaheed Minar in Chuadanga at 7 am on Wednesday. They hope to be able to complete the campaign across the country within the next 22 days. They will continue the campaign every day from 7 am to evening.
In this regard, Mahmud Al Jannat said, Saj is my childhood friend. We have studied together since childhood. We are being bored at home for more than six months in a row during the holiday. Recently the holiday has been further extended. That’s why we have decided to do something good in this leisure time.
The number of motorcycles in our country is increasing day by day. Similarly, the accident rate is also increasing. According to media reports, most of the motorcyclists and riders are getting injured in accidents as they do not wear helmets only. But a little awareness is enough to get rid of it, Mahmud added.
Sajib Hasan Saj said many people are using helmets due to the strictures of the traffic police. This is a very good sign. Even then, many motorcyclists are not wearing helmets. Again, many drivers use their own helmets, but they haven’t had any helmet for the passenger. In addition, helmets especially for children are ignored in most cases. Our nationwide campaign is to raise awareness about the use of helmets by all.
