Two positive Covid-19 tests at AO qualifying

Tennis Australia confirmed on Tuesday (January 12) in a statement that the two tennis players  Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina and American Denis Kudla have been withdrawn from the Australian Open qualifying event in Doha, Qatar after testing positive for Covid-19. 

With the following of Australian Open 2021, it has been decided to hold the men's qualifying tournament in Doha and the women's  qualifying tournament in Dubai from January 10-13. 

At the end of the qualifying event, the players will start arriving at Melbourne on a chartered flight from this week while each player must be in a mandatory 14-day quarantine before the first Grand Slam of the year, to be held from February 8-21.

"Two players have returned a positive Covid-19 test at Australian Open men's qualifying in Doha, Qatar," Tennis Australia said in a statement.

"Both players have been withdrawn from the tournament and transferred to a quarantine hotel.

"Local health authorities, the tournament physician and medical team are monitoring each individual. Contact tracing is currently underway to notify close contacts."
