Two people were killed in a collision between a pickup van and a covered van
Two people, including a driver, were killed in a collision between a pickup van and a covered van in Panchagarh's Tentulia Upazila.
The accident took place on the Versa Bridge on the Panchagarh-Banglabandha highway in Buraburi area of the Upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Rubel Hossain, son of Kalu Miah of Kalandigach Boalimari area of Tentulia Upazila; and passenger Swapan, son of Anwar Hossain of Fultala area of Boda Upazila.
Another pickup van passenger named Sujan Ali, son of Sohrab Ali of Boalimari area of Tentulia Upazila, was seriously injured. He was first sent to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
According to the locals, Rubel was going to Tentulia from Panchagarh with a pickup van at around 11:00 pm. Swapan and Sujan got up as passengers on the way. When the pickup van reached the old Versa Bridge in Buraburi area, a covered van coming from the opposite direction hit the vehicle, leaving its driver Rubel dead on the spot.
Swapan and Sujan were rescued by the locals in critical condition and taken to Panchagarh Modern Hospital where Swapan died. Sujan has been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Tentulia Highway Police Station OC Rabiul Azam said the covered van was seized. However, its driver and his associate managed to flee.
