Two killed in Teknaf `shootout` with police

At least two drug dealers including a UP member were killed in a shootout with police while four policemen were injured as the law enforcers made a drive of recovering weapons and yaba at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Maulvi Bakhtiyar alias Bakhtiyar Uddin Member, son of Kala Mia of Kutupalong area of Ukhia upazila and Md. Taher, son of Mohammad Yusuf Ali, resident of Block-E at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in the same area. Bakhtiyar was a member of Rajapalang UP in Ukhia.
The injured police members are- ASI Mazharul Islam, Constable Shahidul Islam, Md. Habib and Abu Hanif. They have received treatment.
Teknaf Model Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das confirmed the matter.
The OC said fugitive accused Bakhtiyar and Taher were detained in a drive in the Kutupalong area on Thursday night. According to their information, the police went to recover the yaba and weapons stored in the Akashi tree garden of expatriate Nur Hossain in Wabrang of Hnila UP on Friday morning. At that time, their accomplices fired at the police, and four policemen were injured there. Police also fired in self-defense and later, Bakhtiyar and Taher were shot.
At one stage, the attackers fled and 20,000 pieces of yaba, 5 home-made LGs, 18 rounds of fresh ammunition, and 13 rounds of shells were recovered from the spot. Besides, the two gunshot-wounds were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors referred them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. Soon after taking them to the hospital, the doctor declared them dead. The bodies have been kept in Sadar Hospital morgue.
