Two killed in Dhaka gunfights with RAB

Two people were killed in separate gunfights with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Badda Satarkul Panchkhola and Mirpur Baribandhan area in the capital early Thursday. 

The deceased were identified as Maharaj, 40, an accused in 29 drug-related cases and Nazmul Hasan alias Banga Babu, a listed criminal. 

Acting on information that several drug peddlers were staying at Badda Satarkul Panchkhola area, a RAB team conducted a drive there around 2:30 am, said RAB-1 ASP Kamruzzaman. 

As soon as the elite force members reached there, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight. 

At one stage of the gunfight, Maharaj was caught in the line of fire while others managed to flee. Later, he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College And Hospital (DMCH) where doctor declared him dead. 

3,000 of yaba tablets, a shotgun, a shooter gun, several magazines, and a mobile phone were recovered from the scene, said the RAB official.

Meanwhile, RAB-4 Senior ASP Sajedul Islam said acting on information that several top terrorists were staying at in Mirpur Bari Bandh area, a RAB team conducted a drive there. 

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, triggering a skirmish. 

After the gunfight, police recovered Banga Babu, who sustained bullet injuries. Later he was taken to DMCH where doctor declared him dead around 3 am.
