Two killed as covered van hit truck in Habiganj

Two people were killed and three others injured as a covered van hit a standing truck in Rokonpur area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Ahamed of Debidwar upazila in Cumilla and Nanu Miah, a resident of Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj.

Police said the covered van hit the standing truck early morning as they were repairing the truck, leaving truck driver Sohel dead on the spit and four others injured.

The body and wounded were under the truck till 9 am because there was no house near the highway and there was no presence of people early morning. After hearing the wounded scream, another Dhaka-bound truck brought the body and injured to Shayestaganj new bridges area.

Later, the injured were taken to the Zila Sadar Hospital where Nanu Miah succumbed to his injuries.

Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bimal Chandra Bhowmik said that the body of Sohel Ahmed, who was killed in the accident, is in Sherpur Highway Police Station.
