The Ministry of Public Administration has finalized the draft list of holidays for the 2021 academic year in educational institutions. It has been decided to keep weekly holidays in schools and colleges on Fridays and Saturdays. At present, there is a weekly holiday in the educational institution only on Fridays.

The proposed list will be placed to the Cabinet for approval soon. If the cabinet approves the list, it will be published as gazette from the concerned ministry.

The draft states that in 2021, the general holiday is 14 days and the leave is eight days in the executive order. Although there is a total of 22 days of general and executive order holidays, there will be weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. The two-day weekly holiday will also be effective in primary schools and secondary and higher secondary level public-private educational institutions. 

According to the Ministry of Public Administration, the list of government official holidays for 2021 was finalized and the draft was sent to the Prime Minister's Office. The Prime Minister has agreed to this. If all goes well, the holiday list may be presented to the next cabinet meeting for approval. That is why it has already been sent to the cabinet department.

It is learned that the Ministry of Public Administration has prepared a draft list of holidays for 2021 considering Bangla Academy's 1427-28 Bangla calendar, Ministry of Religious Affairs' religious festivals, Meteorological Department, and Arabic calendar.

Accordingly, Shab-e-Barat of Islamic calendar will be celebrated on Monday, March 29, Shab-e-Qadr on Monday, May 10, Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday, May 13, Eid-ul-Azha on Tuesday, July 20, Ashura on Thursday, August 19 and 
Eid e-Milad-un Nabi on Tuesday, October 19.

Holidays of different national days and important religious days of different communities will consider as general holidays. This holiday also includes six weekly holidays. There are four Fridays and two Saturdays. There will be an eight-day executive order on the occasion of Bengali New Year and various important religious days. The executive order includes one-day weekly leave (Saturday) in the holidays. So even though the general holiday and executive order holiday is 22 days, due to Friday and Saturday (weekly holiday) this holiday is actually 15 days.

As always, government employees have the opportunity to enjoy three days of optional leave on the occasion of the religious festival. Besides, the employees belonging to various small ethnic groups working in and around the Chattogram Hill Tracts have the option of two days optional leave on the occasion of their main social festival like Boisabi.
