Char Kajal and Char Biswas unions in Patuakhali’s Galachipa Upazila will get the benefit of the electricity for the first time on June 10. Lakhs of people from these two unions are preparing to celebrate the day with colorful posters and festoons.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given us electricity. Our house will also be illuminated by electric light,” said Tamanna, an SSC candidate Char Biswas Janata Secondary School. “We will always remember Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the mother of humanity. We will no longer be neglected. There will be revolutionary changes in ICT, education, agriculture and medical field in our area.”
Char Kajal UP chairman Saidur Rahman Rubel said it was not possible to bring Char Kajal and Char Biswas unions under direct electricity as “they were two islands”. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the two island unions surrounded by rivers are going to be illuminated with electricity today. “This is our big achievement on the occasion of the Mujib Borsho,” he added.
According to the sources of Palli Bidyut Samity, the power transmission line will be operated in Char Kajal, Char Biswas unions of Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali district through submarine cable from Bhola district.
Abul Basar, GM of Palli Bidyut Samiti, said the power line has been installed in the river with submarine cable at a cost of Tk 165 crore, which is the longest submarine cable line in the country. The connection is being given in a short time only after submitting the government-fixed fee. If all goes well, the power will be officially inaugurated on June 10, he said.
