Two BNP men among 39 held in Habiganj, Dinajpur

At least 39 people, including 9 wanted accused, one convicted accused, two activists of BNP, five drug traders, were arrested from different areas of two district - Habiganj and Dinajpur.

In Habiganj, police, in regular drives arrested 16 persons including nine wanted accused and one convicted accused from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 9 am on Friday morning.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nazim Uddin said, they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.

In Dinajpur, police, in special drives arrested 18 persons including two activists of BNP from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8 am this morning.

Law enforcers also recovered 309 bottles of Phensidyl and 4,500 pieces of cow fattening tablets during the drives.

During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested seven persons including two activists of BNP from Pul Haat area in the town around 7 am, Khansama Thana police arrested two persons, Kaharole Thana police arrested two persons, Birganj Thana police arrested two persons, Ghoraghat Thana police arrested two persons and Chirirbandar Thana police arrested three persons.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.

Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained five drug traders with 309 bottles of Phensidyl and 4,500 pieces of cow fattening tablets around 11:30 pm from Hili railway station in Hakimpur upazila of the district.

Later, the detained persons were handed over to the Hakimpur Thana police, BGB said.

The arrestees of both of the districts were sent to jail.
