Two roadside bombs have exploded in the Syrian capital Damascus, killing at least 13 military personnel and wounding three others, Al Jazeera reported, citing the sources of Syrian state TV, saying that two bombs had exploded near a bus carrying military personnel on Wednesday morning.

Syrian state TV showed footage of a burnt bus in central Damascus, saying “the blasts took place during rush hour when people were heading to work and school”.

The Syrian state news agency SANA reported that two bombs exploded as the bus approached the Hafez al-Assad Bridge in Damascus, adding that there was a third device that was defused by an army engineering unit, calling the incident a “terrorist” attack.

It is learned that no party or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it is believed that the militant group IS is involved in this incident – because IS militants have carried out a number of such attacks on army vehicles in eastern Syria this year.

The conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, has killed more than 350,000 people and displaced half the population, including five million who are refugees abroad.
