Israt Jahan Tusti, a second-year student of the English Department of Dhaka University (DU), has returned home, but as a corpse. Hundreds of people gathered at her house to see her for the last time.
Tusti’s Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Nilkanthpur village of Atpara Upazila in Netrokona on Monday around 9 am. She was then buried beside next to her grandfather Afar Uddin’s grave.
During this, the atmosphere of Nilkanthpur village became heavy due to the crying and lamenting of Tusti’s parents, classmates and relatives. Many could not even imagine that this meritorious student will be buried in this way.
During the burial, Tusti’s father Altaf Uddin, mother Hena Akter, uncle Mofazzal Hossain and friend Raju of the Anthropology Department of Dhaka University were fainting again and again.
“Tusti, where you went by leaving us? Many people came to see you,” Tusti’s mother lamented.
Lecturer Imam Hossain, Tusti’s uncle, took care of her studies since childhood. When she was being buried, he was walking around silently in mourning. And Tusti’s father Altaf Uddin was watching the burial of his daughter with speechless eyes.
Seeing the picture of the burial, Tusti’s friend Raju also fainted. During this, other friends tried to comfort him. “Tusti was my best friend. She used to share everything with me. But suddenly she left us like this – I can’t accept that at all,” he said.
Fire service officials recovered the body of DU student Israt Jahan Tusti from the washroom of building no. 18 of staff quarters of Palashi residential area in Azimpur in the capital on Sunday around 6 am. Earlier, she used to stay at the Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of the university.
