The United States has banned 8 mobile apps linked to Chinese companies, including Alipay, WeChat Pay. Outgoing US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order banning transactions with the software apps.

“Strict action will be taken against those who control and develop Chinese-related software apps to protect US national security,” the order said.

Besides AliPay and WeChat Pay, the list also includes widely used apps such as CamScanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, Tencent QQ, VidMate, WPS Office.

After banning the Chinese apps in the US, Donald Trump said the apps collect “personal information” from users. “The Chinese government could seize the whereabouts of government employees and contractors and important personal information through these apps,” he fears.

The order will take effect in the United States within the next 45 days. But Donald Trump will not be the President until then. Power must be handed over to newly elected President Joe Biden.

“Although such an important decision had been made about the Chinese apps, it had not been discussed with Joe Biden,” a senior White House official said.

Earlier, Donald Trump had ordered the Chinese company ByteDance to ban the popular app TikTok, however, that order was dismissed by the High Court. During that, the court remarked that Donald Trump has been using “excess legal power”.

Recently, downloads of this China-related app has increased significantly in the United States. According to the country’s administration, about 10 million people are using this app have put their personal information at risk.
