Trucks, pickups to be shut down in Dhaka-5 from midnight

The movement of trucks and pickups will be shut down from 12:00 am on Friday to 12:00 pm on Saturday in the Dhaka-5 constituency under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
The Election Commission (EC) informed this by issuing a gazette notification. It has empowered the concerned DC or other concerned authorities to impose a ban on these vehicles.
The by-election of Dhaka-5 constituency comprising of wards 48, 49, 50, 60, 61, 62, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 and 70 will be held on Saturday.
Earlier, the motorcycle movement was shut down in the constituency from 12:00 am on Thursday. The order will affect till 12:00 pm on October 18. However, all types of vehicles except motorcycles, trucks and pickups will be able to move.
The notification further said that the ban can be relaxed for candidates or their election agents, domestic and foreign observers, subject to the permission of the Returning Officer.
Besides, the ban will not apply to local and foreign journalists engaged in election news gathering, election officials, law enforcement officers, election observers and other emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire services, electricity, gas, post, telecommunications, etc.
The notification said that the concerned authorities would be able to relax the ban on national highways, ports and other emergency needs, including the supply of emergency goods.
