Trial against Shahed begins in arms case

A court framed charges against Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim in an arms case. With the indictment order, the court initiated the trial officially.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes framed the charges on Thursday as the accused pleaded not guilty. The court also fixed September 10 to record testimony.
Earlier on August 19, the same court took into cognizance the charge-sheet filed in the case.
DB inspector Md Shairul, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, filed the charge-sheet on July 30 at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan. Later on August 13, the court transferred the case to Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court for further proceedings.
Shahed was arrested by RAB from Debhata Upazilla of Shatkhira in the early hours of 15 July and was airlifted to the capital in the morning. DB conducted a raid on one of his Uttara offices on 18 July and recovered illegal arms and narcotics. They later filed the case with Uttara west police station.
