Trawler with 100 passengers capsizes in Meghna

A passenger trawler carrying over 100 passengers capsized after being hit by a fishing trawler in the Meghna River at Monpura in Bhola. All passengers were avail to swim ashore but 20 of them were injured in the incident. 

The injured are Jasim, Md. Helal, Ripa Begum, Ayesha, Tanju Begum, Swapna Begum, Rehana Begum, Monowara Begum, Farzana, Ripfat, Muntaha of North Sakuchia Union and South Sakuchia Union of Monpura Upazila, Rubel of Lalmohan upazila and Nurunnabi and Md. Nazim of Hatia Upazila. 

The incident took place in the Meghna River in Hazirhat Landing Station area of ​​Monpura Upazila around 11:30 am on Tuesday.

Oarsman Alauddin said the trawler left Master Ghat in Monpura at around 10:30 am with more than 100 passengers and some cattle for Hatia Upazila Chairman Ghat in Noakhali district. At around 11:30 am, a sea-going fishing trawler collided with the trawler at the landing station at Monpura Hazirhat Ghat area of ​​the Meghna River which left 20 people injured. Later the passengers were able to swim ashore. The cattle were rescued with the help of locals.

Monpura Police Station OC Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the incident and said all the passengers of the trawler have been rescued. The matter is being investigated.
