Trawler capsizes near St. Martin: Owner claims 4 fishermen’s deaths

A fishing trawler named ‘FV Zanzabil’ with 26 fishermen capsized in the Bay of Bengal. 22 people have been rescued alive and recovered four bodies, claimed the boat owners.

The accident took place in the Bay of Bengal, 65 km northwest of St. Martin Island on Saturday morning. 

Confirming the incident, the capsized trawler owner said sudden catastrophic weather caused due to dense fog, resulting in the trawler capsized. “There were 26 fishermen in that trawler. They went to sea a week ago from Karnaphuli in Chattogram,” he added.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lt. Commander Amirul Haque said the rescue team reached the spot and rescued 22 people alive after receiving the news of the fishing boat capsizing.
