Trawler capsizes in Netrokona, 17 bodies recovered

The bodies of 17 have been recovered in a trawler capsize incident while visiting the haor of Uchitpur, known as Mini Cox’s Bazar, a tourist center in Madan upazila of Netrokona. One more person is missing.

The incident took place at 11:30 am on Wednesday at Gobindashree Rajali Kanda, a haor in front of Uchitpur.

Two of the rescued bodies have been identified. They are two sisters Lubna Akhter,10 and Zulfa Akhter, 7, the daughters of Waresh Uddin of Charshita Union. The identities of the others could not be confirmed until the report was written.

According to local and police sources, 48 people from Charshirata Union No. 5 and Atpara Teligati of Mymensingh Sadar Police Station came to Mini Cox’s Bazar Uchitpur on Wednesday morning. Later on, the trawler capsized at Govindashree Rajalikanda in the waves of Haor. The bodies of 17 people have been recovered so far.

OC Ramizul Haque confirmed the accidents and casualties. He said rescue work was still going on.
