Uttara zone’s DC Nabid Kamal said, “Workers are blockaded the road and protested from the morning. We tried to persuade them with patience. Succeeded in this, the protesting workers left the road.”
“We are no one to fulfill the demands of the workers,” he said adding that the BGMEA is the owners’ top organizations of the garment sector.
DC Nabid said, “Tripartite meetings are also underway for this. But we also have to keep an eye so that the situation is not going to foil. As part of this, law enforcement agencies are working to maintain security.”
In response to a question, he also said, “Workers will not be on the road today. And what will happen tomorrow that depends on the situation.”
Recently, the government has mandated the owners of the export-oriented garment sector to follow the minimum wage structure. The workers alleged that some owners were not following this structure.
