President of Bikolpo Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Sunday said his party-led Jukta Front will surely join the next general election if a congenial atmosphere for a fair election is created.

"The Election Commission will remain under the President, not under either the Prime Minister or the government. The Prime Minister herself admitted it. We must establish people's constitutional rights for ensuring a fair election," he said.

B Chowdhury, also a former President, came up with the remarks while speaking at the first meeting of extended Jukta Front.

During their talks at Ganobhaban, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina agreed in principle to most of Jukta Front's demands.

The Jukta Front chief said the Prime Minister also agreed to their proposal for creating a level-playing field and equal scope for all candidates in the election.

He said at the first meeting of Jukta Front, they will form various committees involving all the alliance partners apart from making a spokesman.

B Chowdhury expressed deep shock at the death of BNP standing committee member and former minister Tariqul Islam.
