Trade through Benapole land port resumes after 6-day

Import-export activities through Bhomra land port in Satkhira resumed from Wednesday after six days suspension due to coronavirus epidemic.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, the port officials, including the C&F leader, sat in the conference room of the deputy commissioner to resolve the issue. Though the talks were fruitful, it was delayed due to the administrative complexities of the port, but the work of unloading the goods has started again from today.

Meanwhile, cargo trucks waiting in long lines in the Ghojadanga area of India have started entering through Bhomra port. This stalemate was created last Thursday as traders refused to pay their labor bills twice.

Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of Bhomra Land Port C&F Agents Association, confirmed the matter.

He said that as per the demand of the traders, from now on the traders will be able to unload the goods with separate labor with the revenue fixed by the government without handing over the labor bill to the contractor.

Amir Mahmud, assistant commissioner of Bhomra customs station, said revenue collection at the port had come to a standstill due to the stagnation of the last few days. Under normal circumstances, the revenue of around Tk 3 crore was collected through this port every day. The government has lost about Tk 15 crore in revenue from the port in the remaining five days except for Friday.
