The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has taken all measures to hold the 26th edition of the month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) on March 17. This year, the fair will be held at the newly built Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre, situated on 20-acres of land in Purbachal following the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to the sources, the fair starts on January 1 every year traditionally. However, organising the fair in January would have put pressure on the organizers as the venue was changed. Due to the decision to begin the fair in March, they will get plenty of time to take preparation.
The sources also said that China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), a Chinese state-owned company, has already completed the construction of the country's largest exhibition venue in Purbachal where the DITF will be held.
Though the CSCEC was scheduled to hand over the site to the EPB on Thursday, it did not happen.
The project started in October 2017 at cost Tk 800 crore - Tk 625 crore of which was donated by China Aid. Apart from hosting the upcoming international trade fair, the government plans to exhibit exportable goods throughout the year.
Since the beginning in 1995, local companies have used the opportunity of the trade fair to popularise their brands. City dwellers have also shown great enthusiasm in visiting the fair.
